Natsume's Book of Friends- Anime Review
Updated: Nov 19, 2018
Natsume's Book of friends is a Japanese supernatural series on yokai(Japanese folklore creatures). The series has a slice of life tone despite the fantasy elements and each ep has a different story on meeting new yokai.
Takashi Natsume can see yokai, unfortunately it is a rare gift and he is often called a liar as others can't see them. He learned that his grandmother Reiko could and kept Book of Friends what he thought was her notebook. It turns out the Book of Friends is a book containing yokai names of those Reiko defeated.
Natsume one day ends up freeing a yokai who was sealed in a lucky cat statue named Mandra whose true form is a wolf like yokai. Mandra who elects to be called Nyanko-sensei makes a deal with Natsume. He will be Natsume's bodyguard if in return when Natsume dies he will get the Book of Friends which has the power to control the yokai whose name is written. Natsume feeling bad for his grandma's deeds wishes to free the yokai from their enslavement by releasing their names. Will Natsume succeed in freeing the yokai or will he die in the attempt with other yokai and exorcists interested in the Book of Friends?
I loved this series ever since I started reading the manga(which I'll review someday when it's complete!). Currently Natsume, has 6 seasons the first 4 I own due to the last 2 not being released. I enjoy seeing the new yokai and how Natsume and Nyanko-sensei(mandra) deal with each problem the youkai cause. If you like a good fantasy, without much for blood and set in countryside of Japan then I urge you to watch Natsume Book of Friends! I give this anime a review of 10/10.
