Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban- Book Review

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the 3rd installment to the Harry Potter Saga. In this book we meet two of my favorite Harry Potter characters, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin! Now, let's review the plot:

Harry's summer back at 4 Privet Drive has some good news and bad news, good news, is he can let Hedwig out and get presents from his friends for his birthday, the bad news? Uncle Vernon's sister Aunt Marge is coming over for an entire week. After the week from hell, blowing up his aunt like a balloon, and failing to get his Hogsmeade form signed, so he can go to the village of Hogsmeade on weekends at Hogwarts. Harry has run away from home with nowhere to go.

Harry's luck didn't run out when the Knight Bus appears and takes Harry to the Leaky Cauldron where he meets the Minister of Magic himself. The Minister seems relieved Harry is alive and doesn't even punish harry for blowing up his aunt. Harry quickly finds out from Mr. Weasley that the reason for his non-punishment is due to the fact a mass murderer named Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban to kill him. To top it off dementors appear on the Hogwarts Express to try to find Sirius Black but this results in Harry falling unconscious due to the dementor's effects. Will Harry be able to deal with both a mass murderer and dementors?

It is now time for the book and movie comparison!:

1. The scene with Harry performing the lumos charm at night was made up for the movie.

2. The visit from Aunt Marge lasts a week in the book, but in the movie it seems like it's her first night over.

3. Aunt Marge after being blown up was stuck on the ceiling in the book but in the movie she drifted outside into the night sky.

4. The shrunken head on the knight bus that cracked jokes in the movie doesn't exist in the book.

5. Harry Heard of Sirius Black on the TV at Privet Drive before he got on the knight bus in the book but in the movie Stan's newspaper is when Harry first hears of him.

6. Harry bought his school books himself after withdrawing money from his vault in the book, in the movie the minister has all his school books delivered.

7. Harry, Ron went to the magic pet shop with Harmonie when she got Crookshanks in the book, in the movie she already has the cat.

8. When Mr. Weasley pulls Harry aside, to talk about Sirius Black in the book it is at the train station, in the movie it is at the Leaky Cauldron.

9. The choir singing in the Great Hall only happens in the movie

10. Professor Trelawney is the one who explained what the grim is in the book, in the movie it was a student.

11. Hagrid had a group of hippogriffs, for the lesson, in the book, but in the movie there is only Buckbeak.

12. When Ron changes the spider in the book, the spider loses its legs and just has a body in the book but in the movie it's on roller stakes.

13. In the book, Lupin talks about how he was friends with Harry's father, but not that he knows Harry's mom but in the movie he talks as if he was great friends with both parents.

14. In the book, when the Fat Lady was attacked, until her repairs were completed, she was replaced with Sir Cadogan, in the movie, she is just returned.

15. Harry willingly stays behind for the winter Hogsmeade trip to look up for his new broom when he runs into Fred and George, in the movie harry tries to sneak to Hogsmeade by invisibility cloak.

16. In the book, it is stated the map uses green ink, but in the movie the ink brownish, reddish, black.

17. In the book, Ron is by himself by the shrieking shack in the movie Hermione is with him.

19. In the book, Ron, Harry and Hermione are in the 3 Broomsticks in the main bar area behind a Christmas tree when they over hear about Sirius Black but in the movie Harry sneaks inside the 3 Broomsticks in a private room to over hear.

20. Harry's happiest memory in the book was finding out he was a wizard, in the movie it's a conversation he imagined of his parents just talking.

21. In the book, Hagrid had both a hearing and an appeal for Buckbeak's life but in the movie he had just the hearing before Buckbeak was sentenced to death.

22. In the book, it was Lupin who saw Peter in the Marauder's Map in the movie it was Harry.

25. In the book, Crookshanks pushed the knot in the roots to let Harry and Harmonie follow Sirius and Ron in the movie they have to force themselves in the hole under the whopping willow.

26. Peter is tied up to both Lupin and Ron in the book when they leave the whopping willow, in the movie Lupin just has Peter at wand point.

27. In the book both Hermione and Harry were at the lake with Sirius when the dementors attacked in the movie its just Harry.

28. In the book, the plan to save Sirius and Buckbeak, was to get Buckbeak to Flitwick's office window where Sirius was held captive and fly off the west tower from the beginning in the movie Harry and Hermonie make it up as they go and Sirius is locked in a high tower possibly the west one, and he takes off from the castle garden.

29. In the book, it was Dumbledore who told Harry his efforts, to save Sirius and Buckbeak, weren't in vain, but in the movie it was Lupin.

30. Harry got the firebolt from Sirius for Christmas which he used to win the Quiddich Cup but in the movie he gets it at the end of the year also Ron didn't get his owl from Sirius in the movie, but he gets one in the book.

I'm sure there might have been more differences but that's all I noticed or remembered what the book did differently. This book and movie is one of my favorites in the series due to Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. Stay tuned for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
